Arsenal target two new centre-backs as Per Mertesacker faces five months out

ARSENAL have reportedly widened their search for defensive reinforcements following the news Per Mertesacker has been ruled out for five months.

Shkodran Mustafi and Fabian Schar have been lined up as replacements for the injured Per Mertesacker
Mertesacker was injured in the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Lens on Friday and was left out of the Arsene Wenger’s squad for the pre-season tour of the USA.
Multiple reports have suggested the defender could now be sidelined until December.
And according to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal will step-up their search for a new centre-back following the German’s injury.
The report claims the Gunners have added Shkodran Mustafi and Fabian Schar to their list of possible new centre-backs.

Mustafi, who started his career with Everton, impressed for Valencia last season, making 30 appearances in La Liga and scoring two goals.
But he has been linked with a move away from the club this summer after Valencia missed out on Champions League football.
While Schar impressed at Euro 2016 for Switzerland, and he could now link up with international team mate Granit Xhaka at Arsenal.
