N’Golo Kante has lifted the lid on the thinking behind his move to Chelsea last summer.

The France international moved to Chelsea in a £34m deal from Leicester City in the 2016 summer transfer window following the appointment of Antonio Conte as manager.

Kante was a key cog in Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester side as the Foxes won the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in 2015-16.

The French defensive midfielder moved to Chelsea to bolster Conte’s midfield ahead of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

Kante scored one goal and made one assist in 35 appearances in Chelsea’s title-winning campaign to win the Premier League crown in successive seasons with different clubs.

The 25-year-old was named the PFA player of the year ahead of his Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard thanks to his impressive performances in Conte’s side.

Former Chelsea midfielder Kante lifted the lid on his decision to move to Chelsea ahead of interest from other Premier League clubs in the summer.

“It was a very difficult decision,” Kante told Sources.

“With Leicester, we won the league and had a very good season but I think for me, it was a step forward in my career to join Chelsea and I am happy to have joined the club.

“We have had a very good season and I’m happy about that.”
