People Democratic Party (PDP) have made a move to woo business tycoon Aliko Dangote to contest on their platform for the next presidential election in 2019. Dangote who has always been neutral concerning politics as he watched the last presidential election with former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan , before he went to congratulate our current president, President Muhammad Buhari. His actions have clearly made it obvious that he is not interested in the political world.
PDP have made it known that the slot of the presidential candidate will be coming from the Northern side of Nigeria, while the slot for the national chairman will be coming from the southern side. According to Daily times(Abuja), emissaries from the party have been sent to the wealthiest man in Africa, who is from Kano, to contest for 2019 election. They believe that he would match up to whoever APC presents as their candidate.
This decision comes after disunity between members of the PDP with some of  its members decamping to APC. The most notable of its crisis was its leadership crisis which was later resolved in the Supreme court of Nigeria, with Senator Ahmed Markafi emerging as the national chairman for PDP. It was further learnt that the committee that reached an agreement on the decision to woo Aliko Dangote was headed by former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan. According toa inside source, Aliko Dangote was selected due to his "clout, the pedigree, the name, the followership and above all, the financial war chest to match any presidential candidate that the governing All Progressive Party (APC) or any other party may be bringing forward in 2019". It was also gathered that Aliko dangote spent close to N37billion in 2015 to help current president, Muhammudu Buhari, to achieve his aim as APC's presidential candidate. This is not the only president or aspiring presidential candidate that Aliko Dangote has helped to realise their dreams. Other past aspirants and presidents also received financial help from him. Thus the reason for his nomination by its members. Some other prominent politicians like Atiku Abubakar a chieftain of APC, and Alhaji Rabiu Musa kwankaso, former governor of Kano have also shown their interest to contest in PDP's primary elections.
Sources close to the business Mogul say that his stand on politics remains the same. He sees it as a distraction and refuses to meddle  as he is "committed to his core vision and desire to invest and create jobs for people".
